DMV Registration Hold (SB 210) – Clean Truck Check
DMV Registration Notice with CARB Non-Compliant Vehicle Warning
You may have received a registration renewal notice or experiencing delay in receiving your tags and registration due to some mysterious CRAB non-compliance hold placed on your paperwork. You are in the right place and we’ll help you fix your problem.
DMV sends a registration hold notice when it can not locate a Smog Check certificate for a vehicle. For vehicles with (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds DMV must have current CARB Compliance certificate to complete the registration / renewal of the vehicles. Basically a smog check for Heavy Duty diesel vehicles is called Clean Truck Check.
The law requires the DMV to deny registration for any vehicle that is non-compliant or has not reported to CARB as compliant or exempt from the Regulation. In order to avoid SB 210 holds at DMV, your vehicle MUST be reported in CTC-VIS for Clean Truck Check and obtain a compliance certificate at time of DMV renewal.
CARB Warning on DMV Registration Renewal Notice
Starting January 1st 2025 California Air Resources Board HD I/M program will require all commercial vehicles with gross weight over 14,000 pounds to test emission control systems and submit a reading snap shot to CARB database. As this new regulation took affect this year, many business owners got caught by surprise when commercial truck DMV registration renewal was showing incomplete and marked non CARB compliant vehicle. To complete registration renewal requires diesel emissions test: smoke opacity test or OBD reading snap shot.
